DR. KARANVIR VIRK JOINS CENTER FOR WOMEN’S CARE  & REPRODUCTIVE SURGERY FOR MEDICAL FELLOWSHIP

Awarded best overall graduating resident by faculty at St. Peters University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, Karanvir Virk, MD, is now doing a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at the Center for Women’s Care & Reproductive Surgery in Atlanta. Having emigrated from India to the US in 2005, Dr. Virk scored in the 99th percentile in Steps 1 and 2 of the U.S. Medical Licensure Exams, and in the 88th percentile in Step 3.

“Over the past two decades, we have chosen the highest caliber Fellows possible to train them in gynecologic laparoscopy,” said Dr. Tom Lyons, medical director of the Center for Women’s Care. “Dr. Virk is an admirable addition to our staff.”

Having worked as Medical Officer at two major hospitals in India before moving to Canada and then the U.S., Dr. Virk’s research activities include chronic anemia in women of childbearing ago, and the rate of Cesarean Hysterectomy before and after the use of Bakri balloon in St. Peters Hospital.

His publications include case reports on the research above, as well as case reports on congenital herpes, an unusual case of metastasis of uterine cancer, and “Ultrasound, MRI and pathology finding of placenta accreta.” 

Dr. Virk’s Residency and Fellowship training includes a preliminary year of surgery at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ, followed by Ob/GYN at St Peters University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ from 7/7 to 6/11.

 He is a member of the Kaplan Medical Honorary Society in Canada since 2004, and his community activities include reproductive and child health program camps, pediatric camps for village children, heart check-up camp for the elderly and several others.
